The food and ambience was a dream, we will definitely be back. Katrin was super nice and accommodating. When we arrived it was very crowded and we had to wait forever thirsty - optimization for 5 stars, please ask for drinks...

We ate the Kaiserschmarren here, which was prepared with a lot of love despite the kitchen being closed. Super friendly service, nice ambience and also a great view. Thank you!

The Forsthaus Sattelbach lives up to its name and is located just outside the Thuringian Forest. And that in turn means that you can sit outside without sweating, even on the hottest days. The cuisine focuses on its core and that is the preparation of game dishes with the traditional additions from Thuringia. So I mean Thuringian dumplings and red cabbage. And the team does that really well. If you like pizza or similar things, you won't find it here. The team is also originally Thuringian - warm and pretty quick. Which is really necessary given the rush of visitors

Beautiful, rustic inn. You can get delicious food here at moderate prices. The staff is very nice.

We were looking for a place to take a break on the trip and found the Forsthaus Sattelbach via Google. Despite the high temperatures, it was very pleasant here. Of course the restaurant is well away from the highway, but it is a hiking and excursion restaurant. However, a parking space is available. What can I say, we absolutely loved the food. Admittedly, the prices are significantly higher than usual at hiking restaurants. The quality was also significantly better. We chose roast venison with dumplings and red cabbage, as well as the game ragout with mushrooms and dumplings. We can really only recommend the Forsthaus.

At first glance, the Forsthaus Sattelbach doesn't appear to be a gourmet temple; this claim is certainly not in the focus of the innkeepers. More of an inn, getting old, small inside, almost a little cramped, nothing is well designed, sometimes seems a bit careless. But! If you take a closer look, you'll notice that everything is old, but everything is clean and well-kept, clean, from the inside of the kitchen to the toilet. Then comes the food. Of course, simple Thuringian cuisine, but not only cooked to perfection, but also prepared on the plate with a lot of love and tasted great. There were five of us, everything was very good, fresh and tasted very good. And the service was very friendly and accommodating despite the rainy weather and cold temperatures outside. This can be recommended without reservation. We will be back.
